John S. Reynolds FAIA fundamentally transformed the teaching of energy
systems in buildings. He taught Environmental Control Systems at the University
of Oregon from 1967 until 1998, instructing thousands of students and co-teaching
the course with many of the leading figures in energy conscious design
education such as Fuller Moore, Edward Mazria, Charlie Brown, Virginia
Cartwright, and Rob Peña. Reynolds co-authored the book Mechanical and
Electrical Equipment for Buildings’ 6th-11th editions, and his book Courtyards:
Aesthetic, Social, and Thermal Delight was funded by a grant from the Graham
Foundation.
